Heat ‘bowlers’ and Firework by both ‘openers’ overcome Stars

In the second outing between Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Stars, Heat dominated the game like their first outing and defeated Stars by 9 wickets. The star studded Melbourne Stars faced their 3rd defeat of the league.

After winning the toss at Melbourne Cricket Ground, Heat opted to field first, restricting the opposition on a chase-able 141 runs. Yasir Shah opened the bowling for Heat and provided the early breakthrough by picking the wicket of out of form Ben Dunk in the 3rd over of the innings. Kevin Pietersen along with Luke Wright then managed to put up a partnership of 43 runs before Mitchel Swepson got Wright in the 8th over on 19 runs. Swepson then got Pietersen in the 10th over. KP scored 30 runs off 25 balls with the help of 3 fours. Stars failed to establish partnerships and kept on losing wickets. Glenn Maxwell showed up some fight by scoring rapid 50 off 39 balls. His knock included 5 fours and 1 six. Maxwell and James Faulkner put up a fighting partnership of 42 runs before Maxwell was caught by Brendan Doggett at long-on.

Bowlers did their job best for Heat with M Swepson picking up 3 key wickets in 4 overs for 14 runs. Yasir Shah, Mark Steketee and Ben Cutting shared 1 wicket each.

Brisbane Heat achieved the target quite comfortably in the 15th over. Chris Lynn and Brendon McCullum scored 1st wicket partnership of 101 runs from 63 deliveries before McCullum was caught at long-off by Rob Quiney misjudging the tossed up delivery by Liam Bowe. McCullum’s cameo of 61 runs included 7 fours and 3 sixes. C Lynn scored not out 63 runs off 46 balls hitting 7 fours and 3 sixes.L Bowe was the only bowler to get a single wicket.
